Theoretisch könnte es sich wahrscheinlich auf beides beziehen aber ich würde nie auf die Idee kommen, das "numerous times" of "gap year" zu beziehen, allein schon wegen der etwas merkwürdigen Wortwahl in diesem Zusammenhang (wer macht denn 'des Öfteren' ein gap year?).
Wollte ich zum Ausdruck bringen, dass ich darüber nachdenke, mehrere 'gap Jahre' zu nehmen und dabei 'numerous' benutzen, so würde ich schreiben:
"I have thought about taking numerous gap years"

Streiche "for myself", man kann nicht für andere denken.

However, in normal conversation, many native speakers would probably use the more ambiguous word order you asked about and would understand what you meant; it's not ideally precise, but precision isn't everything, and putting adverbs as close as possible to the words they modify is actually more of a style rule than a grammar rule, unless the meaning really is completely unclear.
