    This is from a text discussing the political ramifications of the Body World Exhibition:

    Überwiegte bei der ersten deutschsprachigen Ausstellung 1997 in Mannheim auch in den Medien noch die Bewunderung über die künstlerische Bearbeitung und die umfassenden Einblicke in die plastinierten Menschen-Körper, häuften sich später die öffentlichen Bedenken (Störung der Leichenruhe, mangelnde wissenschaftliche Aussagekraft) und sogar Verbotsversuche gegen die Ausstellung.

    I know the "Leichenruhe" only as "Totenruhe". This is found in Leo as "peace of the dead".

    David, I appreciate your suggestions and the website referrals (one with a story from my hometown!), but I don't think a criminal translation would work here, since the bodies referred to in this text are on display in a public anatomy exhibition (Body Worlds Exhibition) (certainly not in a grave) and no one is insinuating a crime is involved....

    I'm still leaning towards disturbance of the eternal rest if no one has any better suggestions.

    I'd omit "the" - disturbance of eternal rest. Sounds fine.

    @ Ann Marie: It is indeed a crime under sec. 168 of the German Criminal Code to violate the dignity of a dead person. Damaging a burial site or removing a dead body are not the only criminal acts covered by "Störung der Totenruhe" (which is what the author should have written BTW - also "überwiegte" is wrong: it's "überwog".)
