Normally, one is overwhelmed with or by certain emotions--grief, guilt, feelings of inferiority, even joy--which means that these strong feelings bear down on you, become almost too much.
As used here, it might mean overcome with feelings of adoration for something or someone, say a rock-star or a religious icon.
But adoration is not the right word. Adoration is less an emotion than it is something that one does, it is an act. To adore an idol or a person is to venerate or worship it. It does not mean Verzückung (ecstasy), Bewunderung (admiration), or Liebreiz (charm, grace).
"Überwältigt von Verzückung" would be overcome by ecstasy or rapture.
If Liliana was looking for "dass etwas als unglaublich reizend und lieblich empfunden wird," overcome with adoration is not it. Possibly: I adored it, but we'll never know.
