Yeah my problem is that the terms seem to duplicate. Can I say small and slight? Should I just use petite?

I don't think this is necessarily current.
Probably a 'white' musician singing/playing 'black' music.

In a German translation, I too would use "zierlich" hier (or would you prefer "kleinwüchsig"?! LOL)
