    Warum? "Spitze" Bemerkungen sollen schließlich stechen. Ich glaube schon, dass da "verletzen", wenn auch im übertragenden Sinn, intendiert ist. Das war zumindest bei "cutting" so meine Überlegung.

    doesn't say how "spitz" the remark was

    so, as "to make a pointed comment" implies critcism, maybe the simple direct translation works?

    to make a pointed comment about how one is dressed is pretty critical
