Dear Sir or Madam,
As part of my economic studies at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, I want to integrate a semester abroad at the University of Warwick via the ERASMUS exchange programme.
I decided to apply for studying at the University of Warwick, because I think that a stay in Great Britain for several months will give me big advantages referring to my studies and to my personal development.
I had the chance to gain a first impression of British mentality and culture at a student exchange programme between St. John the Baptist School in Woking and my former secondary school, Gymnasium Puchheim. Moreover, I had the opportunity to take part at a two-week intensive course named “Doing Business in a Global Environment” at the European College of Business and Management in London during my apprenticeship as industrial clerk from 2007 to 2009. Due to this trip and especially due to the close contact with the British both at my housing in London and at the college, my positive picture of Great Britain had been affirmed. Because of this, I absolutely want to live and study in England for a longer time with the goal to get to know the British way of life even better. Furthermore, I got a first insight into the structure of British teaching methods and I regard the face-to-face contact with tutors, the small and independent study groups and the writing of essays to specific topics as a very positive attribute of this education system. Warwick University would enable me to experience this way of studying in an even higher degree.
Due to top positions in diverse international rankings, the University of Warwick has a very good international reputation in terms of research as well as teaching. This becomes noticeable, among other things, in the wide and interesting range of courses offered by the Department of Economics. At the University of Warwick, I want to deepen my knowledge especially in economic policy. At courses like “The Making of Economic Policy” and “Economic Policy in the EU” I could study the interaction between economy and politics and decision making in the face of politico-economic problems from a new, British perspective. I am very interested in political and economical correlations and their impact to a global world. Thus, I also can imagine taking courses at the Department of Politics and International Studies which deal with topics of globalisation.
The right choice of courses as part of my stay abroad is very important to me. Therefore, the main reason for applying at the University of Warwick is the wide variety of courses which correspond to my personal interests.
Furthermore, English is the common scientific language of economics. For this reason alone, I want to improve my language skills concerning special economical phrases and terms. Thus, the possibility to stay in England for several months and study economics in English at Warwick University is very attractive to me.
I hope I coherently explained my motives for an application at the University of Warwick within the ERASMUS programme and I am looking forward to get a positive message from you.
