Ein friary ist nicht irgendein Kloster und auch nicht irgendein Mönchskloster, sondern im wesentlichen ein Männerkloster eines Bettelordens (v.a. Franziskaner, Augustiner, Karmeliten, Dominikaner)

Es ist in den meisten Fällen unproblematisch engl. friary schlicht als Kloster oder als Mönchsklosterzu übersetzen. Es wird nichts Falsches behauptet, auch wenn strenggenommen Genauigkeit verloren geht; doch die Ungenauigkeit wird meist von Kontextinformation aufgefangen.

Anders in der Ü-Richtung de->en! Hier ist wieder LEOs Bidirektionalität ein großes Problem: Wer bspw. in LEO nachschlägt, um ein Kloster eines Frauenordens oder der Benediktinern oder Zisterzinser (u.a.m.) ins Englische zu übersetzen, für den wäre friary eine fatale Fehlübersetzung. Derartige Irreleitungen können präzisierende Anmerkungen auf der dt. Seite (wie oben vorgeschlagen) verhindern.
