Or are articulate trucks are well-spoken trucks?
As for the presumably intended equivalence articulated truck (AE) with Sattelschlepper, I can say that I, as an AE speaker, had no idea what an "articulated truck" was. The region marking will be difficult, though, because it is not BE, but is used in Ireland, South Africa and New Zealand.
As indicative that articulated truck should not
be marked as AE I offer the following image searches:
Pictures from an “articulated truck
” search on google limited to sites in the United States
Pictures from a “Sattelschlepper
” search on google.de
An image search on "articulated truck" limited to sites in the United Kingdon
yield pictures similar to the results of the United States search.
In contrast, searching on "articulated lorry" in the UK yields pictures of Sattelschlepper
However, limiting the "articulated truck" search to Ireland
yields pictures of both the dump-truck-type vehicles of the "articulated truck" searches above and
what I would call semitrailers (Sattelschlepper).
The usage in South Africa
and New Zealand
appears to be similar to the Irish usage.
I'm not sure what the dump-truck type of "articulated truck" should be called in German (some kind of Kipplaster?), but there should probably be a definition of that, too.
