'The value range'/'a value product' is idiomatic English marketing-speak for the cheapest product or range of products on offer, but in both the above thread and this one -- related discussion: value
-- non-native speakers have misunderstood 'value' to mean 'quality', or 'luxury'.
I can only find one dictionary entry to support this use of 'value' as an adjective, but there are countless examples of British high street shops having 'value ranges'. I've linked to two.
The Cambridge dictionary entry uses $$ - does that mean it's just as common in AE?
Is kostengünstig -- suggested by hereami in the thread above -- the best translation?
It might be better to have 'value' in a phrase (value brand, value range) rather than an isolated adjective. What do others think?
