parrot’s-feather, also: parrot’s feather, parrot feather, parrotfeather Bot. - Brasilianisches Tausendblatt, wiss.: Myriophyllum aquaticum, Syn.: Myriophyllum brasiliense

    Beispiele/ Definitionen mit Quellen
    current LEO-entry:
    • parrotfeather [bot.] = Brasilianisches Tausendblatt Pl. s. Tabellen wiss.: Myriophyllum aquaticum

NOTE: This proposal suggests CHANGES to the current LEO-entry:
parrot’s-feather also: parrot’s feather, parrot feather, parrotfeather [bot.] = Brasilianisches Tausendblatt Pl. s. Tabellen wiss.: Myriophyllum aquaticum, Syn.: Myriophyllum brasiliense

    * Of the many forms of the English common name, the forms with the singular possessive (“parrot’s”) are most in line with the dictionary names of other plants, such as lady’s slipper, dyer’s oak, etc. – a singular possessive modifier of the singular noun that follows.  I personally prefer the hyphenated form (“parrot’s-feather”) to distinguish the plant from the feather of the bird called a parrot.  I further consider the one-word unhyphenated form (“parrotfeather”) to be a monstrosity, but it is appallingly frequent.  I have omitted citation links to sites that use the two-word non-possessive form (“parrots feather”) because that form is ungrammatical – a plural modifier should not precede a singular noun (several birds do not share a single feather, “parrots’ feathers” would be correct).
    * Also, again, there is no link on LEO preceding the German name to any single substantive table showing the plural form of the German name.  Either the plural form should be added to the entry and the “Pl. s. Tabellen” removed or a link to a substantive table added.  One can figure out the German plural by clicking on the link for “Mehr Informationen” to the left of the English name, then clicking on the Konjugation / Deklination link for each part of the German name in canoonet, but that is not obvious from the “Pl. s. Tabellen” part of the entry.
