Sehr gerbstoffreich ist auch das Holz der südamerikanischen Gattung Schinopsis. Der durch Raubbau stark dezimierte Quebrachobaum (Schinopsis balansae, auch Schinopsis quebracho-colorado) liefert das recht dunkle, schwere, harte und wegen seines hohen Tanningehalts (bis 40%) auch sehr haltbare Rote Quebracho-Holz (Quebracho), das für Telegraphenmasten und Eisenbahnschwellen, als Bau- und Brennholz sowie zur Gewinnung von Tannin verwendet wird.
