... The Bulwer's Pheasant, Lophura bulweri - also known as Wattled Pheasant or Bulwer's Wattled Pheasant - is endemic to the tropical forests of Central Borneo, at elevations up to 5,200 feet.
Due to logging and clearing for agriculture, the Bulwer's Pheasant is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
The male performs a remarkable mating display during which he enlarges his wattles, and raises and spreads his striking white tail (featured to the right). Even though this dance is specifically geared to attract females, males may also display for each other.
The name commemorates the English naturalist James Bulwer. ...

... Abstract
Bulwer's wattled pheasant (Lophura bulweri) have traditionally been housed in pairs in captivity, although it is unknown whether monogamy is the species' natural mating system. In 1998 we placed our group of 3.3 L. bulweri together in a complex outdoor habitat, in order to investigate several questions. These included whether monogamous pairing was the natural mating system for the species, how the new grouping would affect their behavior, and what microhabitats the individuals preferred within the complex habitat ...

... The Lophura bulweri, also known as Bulwer’s wattled pheasant or white tailed wattled pheasant are endemic to Borneo.
The most significant difference between the two Bornean Lophura species was the crest. The crest is absent in the Lophura bulweri but appears in both male and female of the Lophura ignita ignita and Lophura ignita nobilis.
... The absence of crest and plumage comparisons meant the spotted pheasant is strictly not from the Lophura ignita species but more towards the bulwer species. However, its physical characteristic, plumage coloration and particularly its tail was different from those of the Lophura bulweri. ...
