Die Diskuselfe oder Diskusfadenelfe (Discosura longicaudus, auch Discosura longicauda) ist eine Vogelart aus der Familie der Kolibris (Trochilidae). Die Art hat ein großes Verbreitungsgebiet, das etwa 1.900.000 Quadratkilometer in den südamerikanischen Ländern Venezuela, Guyana, Surinam, Französisch-Guayana und Brasilien umfasst. Der Bestand wird von der IUCN als nicht gefährdet (least concern) eingeschätzt. Es ist bisher keine Unterart des Diskuselfe bekannt. Die Art gilt deshalb als monotypisch.
Merkmale
Die männliche Diskuselfe hat eine Körperlänge von etwa 10,2 cm, während das Weibchen nur 6,9 cm groß wird. Dabei haben sie ein Gewicht von ca. 3,4 g.[1] Beim gegabelten violetten Schwanz des Männchens sind die äußeren Steuerfedern mit ca. 5 cm sehr viel länger als der Rest. An den Enden befinden sich zwei schwarzviolette Flaggen.[2] ...

Taxonomy
German naturalist Johann Friedrich Gmelin described the racket-tailed coquette in 1788.[4] Its species name is from the Latin words longus "long" and cauda "tail".[5] It is sometimes considered to be the only member of the genus Discosura, as the thorntails, the other possible members of the genus, are often placed in the genus Popelairia.[6][7]
