Die Purpurkehl-Sonnennymphe (Heliangelus viola) oder manchmal auch Violettkehlnymphe bzw. Violettkehl-Sonnennymphe ist eine Vogelart aus der Familie der Kolibris (Trochilidae). Die Art hat ein großes Verbreitungsgebiet, das etwa 56.000 Quadratkilometer in den südamerikanischen Ländern Ecuador und Peru umfasst. Der Bestand wird von der IUCN als nicht gefährdet (Least Concern) eingeschätzt.
Merkmale
Die männliche Purpurkehl-Sonnennymphe erreicht eine Körperlänge von etwa 12,5 bis 13 Zentimetern, während das Weibchen mit ca. 11,5 Zentimetern etwas kleiner ist. Der gerade schwarze Schnabel wird ca. 14 Millimeter lang. Beide Geschlechter sind sich sehr ähnlich. Einzig der Schwanz des Weibchens fällt etwas kürzer aus. ...

Distribution / Habitat
Purple-throated Sunangels occur naturally on the western slope of the Andes in southern Ecuador and northern Peru in Cajamarca and Piura, as well as in the valleys of Cajamarca and Utcubamba.
They are mostly found along the forest borders as well as in cloud forests, alder (Alnus) woodlands, adjacent second growth, thickets, and shrubby areas - at elevations from 5,900 - 10,500 feet ( 1,800 - 3,200 meters).

The purple-throated sunangel (Heliangelus viola) is a species of hummingbird in the "brilliants", tribe Lesbiini of subfamily Lesbiinae. It is found in Ecuador and Peru.[2][3]
Taxonomy and systematics
The International Ornithological Committee (IOC), BirdLife International's Handbook of the Birds of the World (HBW), and the South American Classification Committee of the American Ornithological Society (AOS) treat the purple-throated sunangel as monotypic. However, the Clements taxonomy splits it into three subspecies, H. v. viola, H. v. pyropus and H. v. splendidus.[2][3][4][5]
