    Mangel an Glaubwürdigkeit

At least in the UK I have never heard credibility gap being used, wheras 'lack of credibility' is commonly used.

    I tend to agree -

a credibility gap describes the difference between what I perceive to be true in a situation, and what others would have me believe is true in this situation, especially considering that their efforts to convince me of similar situations in the past were shown to be powered by a desire *not* to tell me the truth.

put simply: the CIA reports always have a large credibility gap, since they often lie, and have often being caught doing so.

or, put another way - there is a credibility gap between what CNN wants me to believe, and what the BBC tells me about the same theme

I think the German Mangel an Glaubwürdigkeit expresses something slightly different, though the effect is the same.

of course, all the above might be bullsh*t ... ;o)

Der Regierung Bush, die die modernen Methoden von Image Building und Public Relations nutzt wie selten eine Administration zuvor, gelingt es dennoch nicht, die »Glaubwürdigkeitslücke« zu schließen.
