Beide Quellen von Alfred für "parking meter" bezeichnen eindeutig eine Parkuhr und keinesfalls einen Parkscheinautomat.

In New York sehen die Teile nicht aus wie klassische Parkuhren, eher wie die Automaten die in deutschen Kurzparkzonen stehen.

Auch hier in NYC gibt es ueberall klassische Parkuhren am einzelnen Parkplatz die man mit "Quartern" fuettert und die die ablaufende Zeit anzeigen....
Parkscheinautomaten gibt es natuerlich auch. Das man die auch schnell mal im Alltag als "parking meter" bezeichnet ist zwar richtig. Richtig im Sinne eines woerterbuchtauglichen Wortpaares ist es deshalb noch lange nicht.

Nur so zur Information - bei uns (Schweiz) heisst das Ding "Parkuhr", ob jetzt ein Zeiger hochgeht oder ein Schnipsel ("Ticket") ausgedruckt wird. Derartige Parkplätze werden offiziell mit "Zentrale Parkuhr" ausgeschildert.

Manchmal entscheidet der Zweck/die Funktion über einen Namen, nicht zwingend die technische Ausführung. Jede Sau weiss, was mit "Parkuhr" gemeint ist, auch wenn das Ding etwas anders aussieht als vor 50 Jahren. Und schliesslich darf man für die heutigen Preise ruhig eine MWST-taugliche Quittung erwarten, gell?

Stimme dir zu Ben. Nur wenn ich nach der Übersetzung für Parkscheinautomat suche, wäre es nicht schlecht auch einen Eintrag hierfür im Wörterbuch zu finden. Auch wenn all Säue wissen was eine Parkuhr ist, gell?

Wenn wir schon bei den Regionaslismen sind: Eine "Parkuhr" bezeichnet in Österreich nur diese Pappuhr mit Zeigern dran, die man in gebührenfreien Kurzparkzonen (sofern es so etwas heute noch gibt) mit der Ankunftszeit ins Auto legt. Ich weiß nicht, ob es diese Parkuhren zum Münzeneinwerfen wie in Deutschland oder den USA je gegeben hat (zu meiner Zeit jedenfalls nicht).

@RE1: Das heißt in Deutschland "Parkscheibe" und ist als parking disc/k auch schon in LEO; vielleicht sollte man die österreichische Bedeutung ergänzen?
