not supported as is for the following reasons:

1 - spatial join is an adjective/noun combination, verschneiden a verb
2 - what is GIS? if this is a source, it is certainly not sufficient
3 - [geog.] appears too special for my tastes.

if you were to provide source material with contextual examples, you might stand a much better chance of finding support...

    Kontext/ Beispiele
In a Geographic Information System (GIS),spatial data can separated into layers. Each layer contains thematic spatial information which is distinct from the other layers. For example in an urban plan, one could have a layer which contains indutrial land areas, another area for residential areas, and another containing woodland. The relationships between these layers can be analysed with GIS software. A typical analysis would be to determine the total overlapping area of residential areas and flood risk areas. The overlaps between these 2 layer determine residential areas that are in risk of flooding.
The process of editing a layer using other layers as a basis is called "Verschneidung"
