pinning the tail on something

etwas zu fassen bekommen.

Examples/ definitions with source references
Despite of all the problems I have in pinning the tail on my lasting SELEF....

This comes from the children's party game "pin the tail on the donkey" where you are blindfolded and have to pin a cardboard tail onto a picture of a donkey. The children find it funny that when you take the blindfold off, you find the tail is on the donkey's head or something.
"Pin the tail on something" is not normally used in any other context than the party game, but I guess the writer is being creative and means "pin something down" or "locate something".
