The indication [BE] should be added. I do not recall it ever reading or hearing "to call time on sth." in an AE context. It is no coincidence that examples given in the OT are all British English, since the phrase derives from a UK pub landlord/landlady "calling time" i. e. announcing that the pub is closing (shortly before calling time, the landlord/landlady calls "last orders", at which point the last drinks may be ordered).

Ich glaube, dass es die eine griffige Entsprechung nicht gibt. Im Beispiel Capello calls time on Beckham passt der ursprüngliche Vorschlag: Capello erklärt die Ära Beckham für beendet. Im Kontext #2, wo ein abstraktes Konzept der Akteur ist, ist "ist das Ende von ..." eine gute Übersetzung. Bei Some are calling time on the neoliberal age könnte man wiederum sagen: Einige stimmen bereits den Abgesang auf das neoliberale Zeitalter an.
