Im Deutschen kann Aufwand Verschiedenes bedeuten: Zeitaufwand oder aufgewendete Mühe.

Kostenaufwand ist eindeutig, Aufwand ist nebulos.

Michmas Korrekturvorschlag "expenditure = Aufwand" ist schon in LEO drin, und als nichtfachsprachlich gekennzeichnet (wohl weil es "Aufwendungen" heißt, aber dieses Tag kommt mir im Vergleich fast nitpicky vor.)

Beim "Kostenaufwand" kringeln sich jedem, der mal in einer Wirtschaftsschule oder einer BWL-Vorlesung war, die Fußnägel. Kosten =/= Aufwand.

Wer diesen nebulösen Begriff googelt, findet auf Seite Eins der Trefferliste sieben dubiose Wörterbücher iwS, eine geparkte Domain dieses Namens und zwei Blog-/oder Foreneinträge. Brrr.

Das wird ihn hier trotzdem nicht rausbringen, weil im Duden Kos|ten|auf|wand, der: Aufwand an Kosten. steht.

OT: perhaps "nitpicky" of me, but is "tag" (in the English sense) now a German word too? It took me a moment to understand what was meant in #3. (I read the last sentence of #3 first: don't ask! :-)) As you can see from my profile, I'm not a native German speaker and am genuinely curious about this.

@4: yes, it is: "In der Datenverarbeitung und Informatik steht das englische Wort Tag [tæg] (Etikett, Anhänger, Aufkleber, Marke, Auszeichner) für die Auszeichnung eines Datenbestandes mit zusätzlichen Informationen." http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tag_(Informatik) - that's exactly what I was asking for: to put additional usage information into the LEO database entry. Sometimes the usage information in LEO's database is also referred to here in the forum with the nice German word "Flag" (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_(Informatik) :-)

Then of course there is the whole lot of blogs, user forums and other social media, where entries are "tagged" according to content (OT: it's a shame that Microsoft didn't succeed in implementing this for user files on a PC). There again, "Tag" is used in the German language not referring to days: "Die hierbei vergebenen freien Schlagwörter werden als Tags bezeichnet [...]. Mehrere Tags können zusammen als Tag Cloud (Wortwolke) visualisiert werden". http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_Tagging

You will notice that the English pronounciation (tæg) and plural ("Tags" instead of "Tage") is retained, when Tag is used in this sense.

Actually I should have put the tag I asked for in italics or quotation marks in the last sentence to make it clearer.

Don't use it in everyday conversation. It's one of those anglicism IT people are prone to adopt, because have an insufficient command of language and are too lazy to look for a German equivalent. Conveniently, they procleim that those terms are "technical terms".

OT @ #5 and #6:
Thanks, you two. That's kind of what I'd suspected. I particularly liked the comments in #6 :-). At any rate, Tag in the English sense isn't currently in LEO.
