Just in time for Christmas, we have a little goodie for you: the declension tables for German nouns are available again online. The first version with its teething troubles has been completely revised in order to make it a truly useful feature (we hope :)). You can now access this information by clicking on the table symbol (shown on the left). Missing noun tables will be added by and by.

Advent has arrived, and to help you count down to Christmas Christina Preuß has designed a new LEO Advent calendar filled with Christmas ‘goodies’. The doors are eagerly waiting to be opened as of 1st December!

Users of Apple devices may have already noticed that we have recently released an updated version of our iOS app - the latest version of the app provides access to the dictionaries for Polish-German and Portuguese-German, and supports large screens and iOS 7.

Ab sofort können interessierte Werbekunden für das folgende Jahr wieder die einzelnen Werbeplätze auf unseren Seiten buchen. Für uns ist das zugleich die Gelegenheit, "Danke" zu sagen - ohne das Engagement unserer (oftmals langjährigen) Werbekunden wäre der Betrieb von LEO in dieser Form unmöglich!

Um Fragen vorzubeugen, warum Polnisch und nicht Türkisch: Justine beherrscht nicht nur Französisch (ihr ursprüngliches Einsatzgebiet bei LEO), sondern neben anderen Sprachen auch Polnisch. Und da der Aufbau eines Deutsch-Polnisch-Wörterbuchs ihr ein echtes Anliegen war - voilà: Polnisch. Mit großer Energie und Akribie hat sie sich - neben Französisch - der Erstellung des Wörterbuchs gewidmet und es zum Start auf fast 50.000 Einträge gebracht. Die noch fehlenden "paar" bis zu diesem Meilenstein, werden nur noch kurz auf sich warten lassen. Auch die Flexionstabellen für Verben sind zum Teil schon vorhanden, der Rest auf dem berühmt-berüchtigten "guten Weg". Tabellen für Substantive und Adjektive folgen, aber es lässt sich schlicht nicht einfach alles auf einmal erledigen.

Wie bei Portugiesisch möchten wir uns auch in diesem Fall ganz herzlich beim Hueber-Verlag bedanken, der uns die Erlaubnis gab, Wortschatz aus dem bei ihm erschienenen Wörterbuch Deutsch als Fremdsprache, Deutsch-Polnisch / Polnisch-Deutsch zu benutzen. Und weiterhin wie für Portugiesisch: Die polnische Aussprache stellen wir über das Angebot unseres Partners Linguatec zur Verfügung.

Wir würden uns freuen, wenn das noch sehr verhalten besuchte polnische Forum in den kommenden Wochen einen regeren Zuspruch finden würde. Wertvoll wären für uns auch ergränzende Vokabelvorschläge im Forum, damit auch dieses Wörterbuch bald so auskunftsfreudig wird, wie seine "Geschwister".

As of today, we have officially completed the test phase of the new version of our dictionaries. We are indebted to our users not only for their patience but also for their numerous suggestions during the test phase, which allowed us to make improvements so that today we can finally replace the old version with the new one. It was certainly not the first time we have implemented changes, but the recent changes were by far  the most complex to date, especially from a technical point of view. The full scale of the complexity could only be understood once we had made the new version available to a large number of users, each with a different combination of browser and operating system and with different habits when using the dictionary. Unfortunately, for many this turned the testing phase into a very "taxing" phase - apologies once again if you experienced problems, and thanks for bearing with us.

Even if many users initially found the new layout unusual, even irritating, we hope that most of you have, in the meantime, come to appreciate the many improvements we have made: for example, the conjugation/declension tables for verbs, nouns and adjectives, as well as the pronunciation recordings are now accessible in one click, and  load times are faster thanks to leaner page volumes. Navigation still needs to be improved in one or two places (which we are working on), but hopefully this will not spoil your overall experience of the website or make it unusable for you For a transition period, the old version will remain available at odict.leo.org The old version will be disabled once all the remaining problems have been solved.
