Ich finde, die Antworten im Archiv waren nicht besonders hilfreich, und dieses Spruch doch wert, weitere Diskussionen zu führen. Mir fällt nur den Satz ein:

Ich hätte auch gerne mal eine Übersetzung für dieses Sprichwort, denn man braucht es doch schon öfter mal... Dankeschön!

In the earlier discussion (link at #1) Doris L suggested "remove the plank from", which is much the same as my suggestion.

@Spring chicken: You've given two English idioms, but neither of them mean "sich an die eigene Nase fassen".

"taking a good look in the mirror" is as close as I can come to the idea that you should be looking inward for the same kind of failings that you are seeing/criticizing in others, and I think it is even pretty parallel to the idea of "grabbing your own nose :-)
