How-to guide for LEO’s iPhone and iPad app: Dictionaries
General information
The iOS app works for all dictionaries, including forums, vocabulary trainer and language courses.
How to look up words in the dictionary

Enter your search term(s) in the search field and tap the search button.
The auto-complete list provides suggestions while you type, the flag to the left indicates the source language. Tap a suggested word to start a dictionary search.
If there are no or only few matches for your search term(s), results may include orthographically similar entries to allow for spelling mistakes.
If the dictionary includes entries for a search term in both languages, the search direction is determined by which language has more entries. In case you’d like to specify a search direction, select your source language from the auto-complete list.

How to change the language pair

To change the language pair, tap Languages above the search bar.

How to access additional information

Dictionary results in the app are displayed as a list with best possible groupings. Tap a field to access additional information for the individual entries such as audio pronunciation and links to monolingual dictionaries.
On the iPad, the search field remains available on the results page; on the iPhone, click the magnifying glass to start a new search.

LEO’s offering goes beyond the scope of most other bilingual dictionaries and also includes:
- noun and verb tables
- natural pronunciation (not computer-generated!)
- definitions
- grammar and etymology,
- links to other relevant websites, in particular monolingual dictionaries

How to save words to the trainer

Tap the list from which you would like to save an entry and open it.

Select the translation of your choice and then "Click to save".
