Thanks guys - also to girls and woman?

    Comment
In this forum, "thanks guys" was the response to two postings, one of which was done by a woman.

    Is this correct?
And... what is the English expression which correctly summarizes all "formulas" of that kind -, the English equivalent of our German "Floskel"?

    TKS.

"Thanks, guys and gals", wenn es ebenso informell sein soll.

'guys' can refer to a group of people irrespective of sex...
I would use it to refer to an all female group as well as mixed or all male,
    but only ever informally.

..and of course there was the film 'Guys and Dolls' from Damon Runyan's short story. But, nowadays 'guys' refers to both guys and dolls. If Damon were alive to-day, he would turn over in his grave !

    @JGMcI: Wonderful! 8-)

    May I use this?
Wenn xyz heute noch am Leben wäre, würde er sich im Grab umdrehen...

    I love it!

@JGMcI: Good one. But I'd have said "turn in his grave" without the 'over'. Then I checked Google --
    to turn
    to turn over
    to roll over
    to roll
    ...........in one's grave

@Michael Uplawski: Viel Lustiger ist aber: "Der würde sich um GRabe umdrehen, wenn er nicht noch leben würd."

@ghol<GB> Yes, Ghol, you are right, the 'over' was unnecessary
@michael uplawski - use it by all means I don't know who it belongs to. It's one of those old jokes that the Irish use to make fun of their own way of speech.

@Alexander: Aber das Lustige ist ja, dass der englische Satz widersprüchlich ist. Dabei dauert es aber ein paar Momente bis man es begreift.

Note, however: 'guys' plural can be nonspecific gender, but 'guy' singular is *always* male.

Just to confirm what Nicole wrote: In spoken or casual written AE, we would not say thanks guys and gals nor especially guys and dolls. 'Guys' has become the general term.

Mir hat man mal hier (US) erklaert (wohl nicht so ganz ernst gemeint...) dass 'you guys' die informale Anrede ist - also so als ob man im Deutschen mit Leuten per Du ist und 'you' dann eher 'Sie' bedeutet.
