The idea of Ultra-reactionists is helpful though.

It's just a derogatory term for the West-German government back those days. Not sure about "ultrareactionists" -- IMHO it's just trying to make them extremists, of whatever kind.

I don't know if you want to know but there is also a FC-Bayern-Munich-Fanclub from Bonn named "Bonner Ultras". They were once famous for their hooligan behavior, but in recent years they have been less violent.

"Ultras" im politischen Kontext hat IMO seine Wurzeln in "ultramontan"( = jenseits der Berge, hier Alpen), das waren die vatikanhörigen Katholiken in der Bismarck-Zeit. Bei Ulbricht war es die CDU/CSU mit Adenauer etc

Dennoch war es die Zeit der Wiederbewaffnung und der Bedrohung durch den Westen.
Das Wort "Extremist" gab es damals noch nicht und ich denke doch, dass er es in diesem Sinne verwendet hat.
Du magst natürlich Recht haben, wenn du sagst, das Wort kommt ursprünglich von ultramontan und meinte die eher rechtskonservativen, kirchenhörigen Politiker.

Wenn Ulbricht heute leben würde, dann würde er wahrscheinlich "Bonner Terroristen" sagen...

Oder auch "Ultrarechte".

Den Hinweis zum Fußballfanclub fand ich ganz lustig, kein Grund gleich bissig zu werden :-)

Jetzt kann ich nicht ganz folgen. Die Frage war: "what were the Bonner Ultras, exactly?" (im Sinne von Ulbricht). Geantwortet wurde: "Ultra-reactionists", "extremists" und Du hast geschrieben: "Those "Bonner Ultras" called themselves because they were violent and extreme".
Das ist sehr! vorsichtig ausgedrückt, unhistorisch (recte: falsch), wobei mich Dein persönliches Geschichtsbild nicht interessiert. Es bleibt dabei: Bonner Kreise haben sich nie selbst als "Ultras" bezeichnet und für Ulbricht war es der "konservatv-katholische-ultramontane" Kontext, der ein Synonym für "Klassenfeind" war.
"Bonner Ultras = Führungsriege der CDU/CSU (aber nur aus DDR-Sicht).

Der Satz bezog sich nicht auf die Politiker, sondern auf diese "Fußballfans". Diese nannten sich so. Nicht die Bonner Politiker. Es war eine Antwort auf TLEs Beitrag.

Ansonsten glaube ich, wir denken beide in eine ähnliche Richtung, nur dass ich etwas "extremer" bin, während du "nur" konservativ bist. ;)
