Neither of these makes much sense to me. There's no way a wreck can get bigger.

Even if there is some way the wreck is getting bigger, it sounds odd to say that a wreck expands into a big wreck. Like saying that a cake was baked until it became a baked cake.

Well, if the debris of a space battleship is drifting apart, the wreck eventually does expand...
