    What would be the best word choice ('anyway', 'in any case', 'at any case', 'in any event') below, and above all why? Thanks!

    "Anyway, the next best opportunity for us to bring the bowl home will certainly come rather sooner than later." vs. "At any rate, the next best opportunity for us to bring the bowl home will certainly come rather sooner than later."

    1. rather sooner than later -> sooner rather than later

    2. It would help to see the text that immediately precedes the OP text. It's more a manner of style than meaning: IMO all four mean about the same. I would say that "anyway" is the most colloquial/least formal of the four. The other three are at the same higher level of formality. I don't know for certain, but I suspect that among the three, "in any case" would be the most often used in American English.
