    coldmeat store?

    Comment

    Dictionary: coldmeat

cold meat (Amer.) = kalter Braten

cold meat [COOK.] = der Aufschnitt pl.: die Aufschnitte

sausages and cold meat [COOK.] = die Wurstwaren pl.

coldmeat store [COMM.] = Laden mit Wurst- und Fleischwaren

AHD doesn't have coldmeat or cold meat, though it has cold cut, of course: https://ahdictionary.com/word/search.html?q=c...

    cold cut n.

A slice of cold cooked or cured meat: The caterer offered many kinds of cold cuts.

Neither OALD nor CALD have coldmeat/cold meat, but they do have cold cuts.

Does anyone say any of these? If I saw "cold meat," I would think of literally that: meat that is cold, probably leftovers (chicken, slices of ham) that you eat cold out of the refrigerator. I would not immediately think of cold cuts (Aufschnitt) or any kind of sausage (cold hot dogs anyone?).

No; it leaves me as cold as you. We would say 'cold cuts' or 'sandwich meat' if anything.

And the closed compound is surely just wrong.

Thanks. I thought I would check first before flagging it as a wrong entry. Sometimes you get surprised by what others say.

Thanks, SD3. Strange that LEO has it with an AE tag.

Should we add additional new entries?

cold pizza = a form of pizza that has been baked and allowed to become cold

cold spaghetti = a form of pasta that has been cooked and allowed to become cold

    I should have added:

I've never heard of a coldmeat (one word, two words, or hyphenated) store, though.

@no me bré: I know, right? There's something really odd about the entries.

The AE sounds wrong to me. Cold meat would literally mean meat that's cold in AE. Aufschnitt would be cold cuts.
