Word order in the definition of a parameter (IT)

I'm proofreading an IT manual and am stumped for a way to make this definition more readable:

    • Specifies a relative date starting from which audit log entries should be returned, e.g. 2 days ago.

    Is the following any better?

    • Specifies a relative date. Audit log entries should be returned, starting from this date, e.g. 2 days ago.

In the second version: Is the comma after "returned" a relic from changing the first version? If it's meant to be there, I find that confusing.

I wasn't sure about whether the comma would be helpful or not.

Do you mean that it's understandable without the comma?
