    Ignoble strife.....

    Comment
    What does it mean?

    Reference:
"You seek solace in quiet places, solitude, and places of healing and meditation; truly far from the medding crowds ignoble strife."

    Thanks!

It looks as if an apostrophe is missing (crowd's or crowds'); also, shouldn't that be madding (or, possibly, meddling)?
Anyway, both words are in LEO:
    Dictionary: ignoble
    Dictionary: strife
I would think it means something like "weit weg vom gemeinen Zank der verrückten Menschen", "weit entfernt von den unwürdigen Streitereien des gemeinen Volkes" (presuming that it was "madding" and not "meddling"; I must admit I don't know how "Far from the Madding Crowd" was translated).

Sorry, I didn't see that this was a double posting. Better answers are to be found here: https://dict.leo.org/cgi-bin/dict/forum.cgi?a...
