    to copy someone

The expression "Could you copy me" is used in our company instead of "Could you send me a copy of that e-mail". Is this expression generally used in BE/AE when sending an e-mail copy to someone else?

I encounter this use of 'to copy' typically in situations when the email is not yet sent, so the requester is just to be added to the 'to' or to the 'cc' list. But until now I thought that 'to copy' is used mostly in spoken language.
