    I have a question. I'm writing a little story in English at the moment, and it contains dialogues. Now this might sound weird, but I was wondering if there are different spelling for the 'word' "oh". It just looks so peculiar to me written on paper, maybe because it is pronounced very differently in German and English. I mean the expression for realizing something, for example a misunderstanding (hard to explain), like:
    - No, I meant....
    - Oh.

    Or simply
    "Oh crap."

    It sounds like it is ending with a "u" (not an "h")

    Please let me know if I'm making any sense here and if you have any comments/suggstions etc.

    Here's the American pronunciation, which is like the British, just a bit more nasal or something:

    The only other way to write that sound (like the letter O) is "O". That spelling is used in very old poetry or plays. Otherwise, there's no other way of writing that sound. When you see "oh", the above pronunciation is also the only one it could be. It isn't "ooh" or "uh" or "uuh":
