Can I use the word interstate for länderübergreifend?

I am running out of clever ways to translate this word. Can I use interstate? Or is that just a highway in the US that crosses at least one state line?

    What about cross-boarder?

Interstate is used in America for much more than just the highways.

try googling for 'Interstate commerce' for example - I found at least one site juxtaposing this with 'intrastate commerce' - so there is a certain validity to it.

Depending on the context I'd expect non-AE-native English speakers to understand what you mean with the term
