    rapidly, fast, quickly

    Comment
    A rapidly growing company.

Could I replace rapidly by "fast" or "quickly"?
    I. e. A fast growing company or a quickly growing company.

I have some problems when to use fast and quick.

    Thanks

You could use "fast-growing" (note the hyphen), but I wouldn't use "quickly". I am trying to think of a reason, but I can't - maybe somebody else knows a rule of thumb for this one.

    Adverb

    * S: (adv) quickly, rapidly, speedily, chop-chop, apace (with rapid movements) "he works quickly"
    * S: (adv) promptly, quickly, quick (with little or no delay) "the rescue squad arrived promptly"; "come here, quick!"
    * S: (adv) cursorily, quickly (without taking pains) "he looked cursorily through the magazine"

Ich hab Dir mal die Definition von "quickly" rausgesucht. Ich denke, das paßt deshalb nicht, weil es eine Bewegung bedingt (he moves quickly).

No rule of thumb, just a hunch, but the same as the kat's

One would generally not use "quickly" in a title like that. One could say that the company grows quickly, but I agree that in this situation the best usage would be "rapidly growing" or "fast-growing" company. "Quick" generally gives the idea of being sudden or immediate, and the action could be over as quickly as it began.

Thanks very much. You were more than helpful and now I can understand the difference between quick and fast. I have always had a bit of problem with it.

Have a nice day and a nice evening
