Comment | To whom it may concern:
With this letter I wish to express my interest in doing an internship at the xxx Institute.
As a student of “xxx (Bachelor of Science)” at the University of Applied Sciences in Germany since September 2007, I learned a lot about the forest ecosystem with its whole biodiversity and its management. Thereby I am especially interested and skilled in forest protection and health, entomology, phytopathology, risk management and silviculture. Before continuing my educational path at the university in the sixth and last semester, I would like to gain practical experience in the field of forest ecosystem management in order to bring my theoretical knowledge into daily business. As a matter of fact, the curriculum of the study course provides the time of a whole semester enabling students to do an internship in a foreign country.
At my previous internship at xxx National Park, USA, in the summer of 2008, I had the possibility to permute some of my theoretical knowledge into field work. As you can see in my CV, the work included a wide spectrum of duties such as wildlife management, backpacking trips and resource management in general. Furthermore I gained knowledge in many fields, for example concerning the topic forest fires, living in a foreign country with a different language and culture, how to survive in bear country?? and the difficult management of wolf and bison. I had the chance to get an insight into forest damages and its prevention, too.
Due to the fact that I am really interested in forest health, I wish to do this internship related to this topic and also preferably in combination with the context of climate change.
I consider myself as a very open minded person with a lot of motivation and curiosity. I am used to work systematically and accurately as well as efficiently. On the one hand I enjoy working in a team as I have done with the Resource Management Crew at xxxNP. On the other hand I also appreciate working independently for example by doing labour work. I am skilled in international relations and communication and, of course, in international forestry. Besides German, my mother tongue, I am fluent in English, both written and oral, which I can demonstrate not only by my communication skills but also with an excellent TOEIC-Test (Test of English for International Communication) result. I have basic knowledge in the languages Swedish and Spanish, too.
----Due to the fact that you are a European Institution and that you are interested in promoting the conservation and sustainable management of forests Europe-wide, I think it is necessary to get in contact with young academics all over Europe. Therefore I am convenient for your institute not only because I will surely get the practical experience I want to gain that I can broaden my horizon but also because you might find my internship as an advantageous addition to your institute. In addition I have the knowledge and the willingness to get a supporting part of your institution.----
I hope you have an open position for a young determined and ambitious person as an intern; preferably starting from August or September, with the duration of twenty weeks. I also want to emphasise that I am not dependent on receiving a salary, because I will get financed through the Leonardo da Vinci scholarship, just like I do not need a provided accommodation. I will get assistance for the visa paper work both from the Leonardo da Vinci programme and my university and I do not need work permit for this internship.
I hope to hear from you soon
Sincerely,
