    will-future or tense simplification?

    will-future or tense simplification?

    Comment
    Two example sentences:

    (1) These current developments might result in a world where people HATE/WILL HATE one another.

My guess is that "will hate" is not correct here. HOw do native speakers see this?

(2)As long as there is no alternative to X, we are/will be extremely dependent on these resources.

This is really tricky for me. It's a statement about a future development, but on the other hand we are already and will remain dependent on these things.

Thank you very much in advance.

My own opinion is that in these two particular sentences, you can have either. My preference in the first sentence is certainly for the simple present, but I cannot think of any reason why the WILL form is wrong.

In the second sentence, both are logically possible, I think, but we are talking about the future, and that leads me to prefer the WILL form. However "as long as" refers, so to speak, to a series of continuing presents, if you get my meaning, and I can see that a present in the other half of the sentence does the same.
