Not a stupid question at all. I think I can safely speak for the Brits - BE uses "accelerator pedal", or just plain "accelerator".

I just thought "accelerator" sounded a bit clumsy in a marketing text compared to "gas pedal", but perhaps it's just a Gewöhnungssache.

Officially you would probably call it "accelerator" or "throttle", but in daily usage many, if not most, would say "gas pedal". In any event, everyone would understand any of the three terms without difficulty, at least in AE.

I've never heard "gas pedal" in Britain, only accelerator. Where it's hand-operated, i.e. not on cars, it would be the throttle.
