    Hi LEOs!

Can you use the verb mentioned above in the context of a student who gets a worse grade for the used language than in an earlier exam? (as in 'Some of you have really deteriorated.')
My class teacher used it today and as I know this particular verb rather from, let's say a medical context, I wondered whether it is correct here.
Would you be so kind and, if necessary give me an alternative?

    Thanks in advance!

The student as a human being cannot "deteriorate" but his grades or his achievements can:

"His grades deteriorated over the past year"

It sounds fine to me, a little humorous, maybe.

In fact, I can't think of anything better off the top of my head.

A small correction, if I may; it should be 'the language used,' or really, just 'the language' is enough. (A used language would be one that someone else had used and then decided to give away or sell, like a used book or a used car. (-: )

... "to change for the worse" would always be an option, of course.

I'm always glad to learn something (-: (and apparently I'm not the only one who writes '(-:' this way)
    Thanks to both of you.

More common than 'changed for the worse' might be just 'gotten worse.'

A couple of other belated ideas: gone downhill, gone the wrong direction, gone backwards, more formally also regressed ...
