Re registration:
Last night wasn't encouraging. If trolling can't be tracked down and stopped, perhaps with the help of the police, and it's not practical to plan ahead for rotating night shifts on call, or set an alarm when a large number of posts appears at once, there may even need to be a registration confirmation delay on nights and weekends for a while -- something like a notice that it will take at least one business day for approval by admins before a new nick is activated.
That might also help discourage people from choosing hardly perceptible variations on existing, well-known nicks (e.g.,
<b>See user profile:</b> marcus<DE> ), a practice which also seems to be on the rise lately.
Re similar nicks:
If traveler would just fill out his or her profile, at least as far as country and native language(s), it would be helpful for people who don't see posts by everyone all the time, and would help confirm that he or she didn't intend to mislead anyone. That would also be considerate of everyone else who's recently turned blue, or rediscovered their inner blueness.
Re profiles:
I also notice that something seems to have changed for the worse about the page layout in the profile since Chinese and Russian were added. Now, the bottom line of Sprachkenntnisse, where people can mention special interests or other languages, is often invisible if you don't have the window maximized to full screen size. That is, even if the small inside frame is not large enough for all the text, no scroll bar shows automatically; the interior scroll bar only appears if you guess that there's something missing and click on the profile text and shade downward to force the scroll bar to appear.
