    RCD is English and is the abbreviation for Residual Current Device.

    But does anyone know what FI is an abbreviation of? Or in which language?

    I is the accepted symbol for current/Strom, so it occurs to me that FI could be a kind of shorthand for 'Fehlerstrom', but that's just a guess on my part.

    MTIA for any authoritative information.

    Ja, Du bist auf der richtigen Spur. Die Bezeichnung FI leitet sich vom F für Fehler und dem I als Formelzeichen für den elektrischen Strom ab = Fehlerstromschutzschalter. Mein Vorschlag: unübersetzt lassen.

    Thanks, Carullus. Yes, I always leave it 'as is' because FI/RCD is an accepted term, even although most people don't know what all of it means!
