    What is the difference? Is vorig used in far fewer contexts (and more importantly, NOT in the context below)?

    Beispiele:
    "Da es kein Protokoll des Interviews gibt, sind die vorherigen Aussagen oder genauen Worte in der Frage, dass ihre Antwort provozierte, unbekannt."

    Die vorige Aussage = the immediately preceding statement

    Die vorherige Aussage = the previous/earlier statement

    So, if I made several statements, and it turns out in statement 7 that my statement 1 was incorrect, that would be a "vorherige Aussage", if I mentioned statement 6 in my statement 7 I might refer to my "vorige Aussage"
