    Guten Morgen,

Because both parts of the Øresund had a lot in common – from industrial competencies (manufacturing of pharmaceuticals) and excellence in scientific research (natural sciences), to similar educational and health care systems (e.g. clinical trial system) – the pooling of the these assets across borders allowed to link up successfully with the Archipelago Europe, the hegemonic network of locations where the most advantageous socio-economic developments take place (Hilpert 2003: 19, Nelund and Norus 2003: 199-208).

However even if this process is largely determined by simultaneous presence of cutting edge research and a reference industry to which scientific findings can be applied, geographical and cultural proximity clearly played a role in facilitating and fostering them.

    Alternatives:
made it easier and helped it to grow.
played a role in making it possible and helping it to grow.
The sentence has a lot of ponderous Latinate vocabulary - a few more short Anglo-Saxon words would help to liven it up.

    BTW:
    - Because both sides of the Øresund had a lot in common... ("Parts" of the Øresund would be in the water.)
    - "scientific research" automatically means natural sciences. "Wissenschaftlich" has a broader meaning than "scientific".
    - "The Archipelago Europe" doesn't sound like something a native speaker would have coined - did some Scandinavians make it up? We'd be more likely to say the Europe[an] Archipelago.

These are all minor points. Your work is generally very well-written.

One more thing: there's a word missing here.

the pooling of_these assets across borders allowed [what?] to link up successfully with the Archipelago Europe.

    Vielen Dank Captain!

the pooling of_these assets across borders allowed [what?] to link up successfully with the Archipelago Europe.
