    I'm familiar with Abkürzung. But what is Abbreviation (German)? LEO offers it as one translation of abbreviation (English).

    (Not sure whether a question like this should be posted in English gesucht. I sometimes post in Sprachlabor when I'm looking for an explanation or comparison of words rather than a simple translation.)

    Außerdem nicht ausgeschlossen, dass man das Schlau-Lateinisch auch im Sinne von Abkürzung textlich sagt. Vgl. Hauptwort=Nomen etc.

    Leo hat auf der englischen Seite [print.][mus.]. Es ist hier also fachsprachlich. In der Zoologie offenbar auch, wie wundertype schreibt.
