I have heard native speakers say this but I can never really understand the exact words. Wich of the two forms above is it? And is it colloquial? (Can I e.g. use this term for school purposes?)

Ok, I have figured out it's "In some way shape or form...", but I still don't know if I can use it for school.

In some way, shape or form ...

is a phrase that's repetitive in a way. I think it was coined that way more because of its rhythm than for any logical reason since "shape" and "form" are pretty much synonymous and "in some way or shape/form" doesn't have that same rhythmic quality. I personally wouldn't use it for school work (essays etc.), but it wouldn't be terribly wrong to do so, either(IMO).

Yes, it's repetitive -- three words instead of one, making it more emphatic.

The phrase often (usually?) follows a negative, but then has 'any'.
    Macmillan gives the example:
This is not a criticism in any way, shape or form.

I would say it's roughly equivalent to:
    auf irgendeine Art und Weise

Klingt wie perfektes Legalesisch für mich.

Ist es aber nicht, Valeriana, sondern normale Umgangssprache.

in any shape or form (or in any way, shape, or form)
in any manner or under any circumstances:
96 per cent of the electorate voted against Europeanization in any shape or form

(in) any way, shape, or form
    in any way at all:
I have never been involved in any way, shape, or form with criminal activities.

    It's indeed strongly emphatic.
