Es gibt keine 1:1 Umsetzung von deutschen ABI-Noten in US grades.
Wie sieht es mit Unterstuetzung seitens des Lehrstuhls/der Lehrstuehle aus, die den Austausch foerdern?

Wenn Sohnemann nach dem ABI als Freshman im College anfaengt, wird er mit ziemlicher Wahrscheinlichkeit unterfordert sein.

Da es, wie AGB schon angedeutet hat, keinen "Umwandlungsschlüssel" für Zeugnisnoten gibt, sollte man die Noten mittels einer Anmerkung in Klammer oder Fußnote erläutern.
Ich empfehle hierfür so etwas wie:
Mathematik: 1*

*on a scale of 1-6: 1 is the highest, 6 is the lowest score. The minimum score required to pass is 4.

Nur so als Vorschlag.

I would contact the US college/university where your son will be studying and ask if they have an evaluation service. They may require previously translated transcripts of his marks, but should be able to evaluate them (this may not be free of charge!). Also as suggested by AGB, your own school/exchange intermediary should be able to point you in the right direction, possibly even look after this type of thing. Note, the marks go from D to A+; there is no E. F is failing. Even if your son does not find the semester challenging from a strictly educational point of view, it should be a very interesting experience for him with respect to the different teaching/learning and lifestyles.

Die Umsetzung von AGB scheit brauchbar zu sein. Die an deutschen Schulen übliche Unterscheidung von mangelhaft und ungenügend dient eigentlich nur dazu, um zu verhindern, daß bei einzelnen Notenausrutschern gleich die ganze Klasse wiederholt werden muß. An den Hochschulen gibt es dann das System von 1-4, 5 bedeutet nicht bestanden. Dies scheint sich dann mit dem A-D ganz gut zu decken, oder nicht?
