Whew! I'm so relieved that you guys have come to this conclusion. I was sitting on my hands up to this point, because as a non-German it's really none of my business, but my initial strong reaction was exactly the same as Sharky's about the 'ct': Brrr! Maybe the folks at Duden just had a bad day.
The issue as I see it is not one of inflection rules alone, but of what to do when those rules conflict with *other* linguistic rules, like those of phonetics or orthography or whatever we call this. (Or grammar, as in *Mails.)
One last question for the native speakers. I dropped by the VDS (whom I don't always entirely agree with, but here their help seemed rather desperately needed), and they offer 'auslagern' as well as 'ausgliedern':
