    "... und traurig stellte er fest, dass..."

    bei glücklich würde ich sagen "...and happily he noticed that...", aber sadly heißt doch eher so etwas wie leider und einfach nur sad ohne -ly ist wohl falsch.
    Wie könnte man diesen Satz also übersetzen?

    ansosnten gibt es ja eine ganze Menge Auswahl für traurig bei google woefully paSST VIELLEICHT

    (He realized) with sadness (that . . .)

    This avoids confusion with "sadly" as a sentence adverb.

    "Happily" might also be interpreted as "fortunately", "by a happy chance"; so you might write "He realized with joy that . . .".
