Handlung would be the story line/plot, Handlungsverlauf, how the plot develops, and Handlungsschema?? Perhaps brief outline of plot?

Stimme Carly in Punkto Handlung und Handlungsverlauf zu. (Man könnte z.B. sagen, eine Verzögerung im Handlungsverlauf erzeugt Spannung.) Handlungsschema würde ich abstrakter verstehen. Noch eine Stufe über plot. Das Handlungsschema z.B. einer Monk-Folge ist (fast) immer gleich (oder anders formuliert: die Handlung läuft immer nach dem gleichen Schema ab): in der ersten Szene geschieht ein Mord. Ohne das jetzt durchzuanalysieren, müssen außerdem seine Manien vorkommen, Disher's Tolpatschereien, etc.

Oder das Handlungsschema von Genre Romanzen ist auch immer gleich. Sie trifft ihn, beide können sich auf Anhieb nicht ausstehen. Dann aber... etc.

Anja, das hast Du ganz bestimmt recht - ergibt sehr viel Sinn! :-) Do we have something along the lines of "standard scenario" ??

Just to make it short:

"Handlung" is either the story itself (movie,etc.) or it means the acting of someone.

"Handlungsschema" is the usual pattern of a plot (movie,etc) or the pattern a person follow always when acting in a certain way.

"Handlungsverlauf" is the way a plot is developing within a sequence/period (movie,etc).
