if I remember rightly *split ends* is called Spliss in German when referring to hair:

unfortunately it isn't in LEO, yet - would be a candidate for a New Entry, imo.

so if you go to the hairdresser's and ask for a hair cut to get rid of your split ends, then you are looking for a trim (a hair cut where only very little hair is cut off) of the split ends: 'nur den Spliss rausschneiden, bitte' might do the trick

... wäre eine weitere Möglichkeit. This does not specifically address the split ends, but it is a common way of asking for a trim in German.

Es gibt tatsächlich einen Splissschnitt. (Ich glaube, dass er beim Friseur so hieß). Dabei wird immer wieder ein Bündel Haare genommen und gedreht; nur die abstehenden, splissbefallenen Spitzen werden abgeschnitten.
