    When tantalum capacitors fail, they fail in style, or at least in short-circuit. The result can be overheating.

    Wenn Tantalum Kondensatoren ausfallen, they fail in style, oder verursachen zumindest einen Kurzschluss. Das Ergbnis kann eine Überhitzung sein.

    What exactly means "they fail in style" what is the relationship to short-circuit. Because of the "at least" it should be something more critical than a short circuit?

    dann aber richtig / dann aber anständig / dann aber mit großem Getöse (und da kannst Du dann auch gut den Kurzschluß reinbringen)

    Das "Getöse" darf man einigermaßen wörtlich nehmen. Tantalums können explodieren.

    Wurde Tantal im Deutschen in Tantalum umbenannt, ohne dass ich es bemerkt habe?

    Nein, Re, bestimmt nicht. Aber die Tantal-Kondensatoren werden im Jargon gerne so genannt. Ich probiere es demnächst mal mit "Tantaliden". :)
